Parramatta Park Picnic Dates

Postby Be11ydancer » Sun Aug 27, 2006 7:48 pm

OK Sydneysiders, we decided on another thread to get this thing happening again. I've picked a date at random- just need to know what people would prefer -Saturday or Sunday.

How does Saturday the 21st October or Sunday the 22ND October sound?

OK Bella Trying again.....

How does Saturday 14th October or Sunday 15th October sound?

Don't want it too close to the Yum Cha one- has any date been decided for that yet or should we put the picnic in January for OZ day?

Mmmm, there's nothing on the calendar for 14/15th Oct, but the 15th is ringing a loud bell. I'll have to check that out with hubby. But, we are free 14th.

Cannot do without Abs or Bella- how about we move the date to the week after rather than the week before or do we want to do this even later in the year and go with the Yum Cha one first?

So the new proposed dates are.........

November 4th and 5th

SOUNDS OK. I WORKED OUT WHY THE 15TH OCTOBER RANG A LOUD BELL! THAT'S THE DAY OF THE J.D.R.F WALK FOR A CURE (JUVENILE DIABETES). WE WENT LAST YEAR, FELT GREAT, RAISED SOME MONEY AND GOT SOME EXCERCISE. ANYONE ELSE COMING??? IT'S A GREAT DAY! COME ON LAZY BUMS..... COME ALONG WITH US, WE COULD DO THAT INSTEAD OF THE PICNIC, BECAUSE IT'S LIKE A PICNIC, AFTER THE WALK, EVERYONE JUST SITS AROUND AND EATS AND CHATS.

As an admin I should remember not to forget this board if you know what I mean.

I do like the walk idea, we've had teams before. It's a pleasant walk etc etc, we can register as Reality Check team (fundraising isn't important just turn up) do a picnic afterwards.

Sounds good Mel. My family and I are going anyway. Do you think we should put up a new topic in the main section of RC, to let everyone know of your idea of a team???

I think the walk should be another meeting, and not a replacement for the picnic at Parra. Don't forget that Gray (2strokelad) and some others (including me) are not mobile enough to do a walk. Having said that, I think an RC team is a great idea.

Don't know if I can walk- currently have some problems with my feet but I could be there for a picnic afterwards. I will even make cute little cupcakes to reward the walkers. Us non walkers (are you coming Gray?) could mind the picnic spot and look after everyone's stuff for them. I have a big ole esky we could bring to keep the cold stuff cold and some nice comfy directors chairs too.

Belly, that would be great. THe walk takes less than an hour so it would be great to have a spot selected, where we could meet and then come back to afterwards.

Okey Dokey, then that's what we'll do. I think Dad will be there with the Lions club too, so he might bring his portable shelter thingy for us to use. If The Bear and I go in with him to help set up we will be there early enough to snare a good spot.

Hi Elli

Great that you're coming with your family, fundraising can be a challenge have you tried emotional blackmail , extortion or standover techniques?

That webpage thing when you register is good, maybe you can send a link to everyone in you address book and ask them to sponsor you, does your family include kids-grandparents have to be a soft touch :)

Hey there Gray,
The Walk for the Cure kind of bumped the Parra Park one off the map. Not sure if I will be making that one either- waiting to hear back from a doctor about a surgery date.
Wanna meet up for coffee some time soon instead?

Hi Elli,

For the last few years I've bled my workmates dry.

This year I emailed my family and friends and also asked them to forward it on to anyone they know who might donate. So far that has been very successful. I've had donations online from people I don't even know :).

I just sent an honest email about why I'm walking , what I hope to achieve (A Cure) and how they can help. I made an anonymous $5 donation to myself online just so no-one thought that they were expected to meet or match my larger donors.

I'm collecting their email addresses and sending them an appreciative email as they donate. I'll send a general email of thanks to them all after the walk and let them know how much I raised. I've found that people continue to support me because I say THANKS. I guess we all want to feel that we're making a difference to the world in some way and that it's appreciated.

Hope your fundraising is going OK and remember every little bit helps. Your worth doesn't depend on HOW MUCH but the fact that you're taking part !! See you and family on the 15th.

Cheers,
Tony

Thanks Tony, i really appreciate the support!

Work is a little strange at the moment - at uni and one of my jobs hardly anyone knows that i aam d and i feel accutely unconfortable raising the topic.
I will pluck up the courage to ask people at my other job - thanks for the push! I will take your advice about thanking everyone too!

I feel so bad as everyone else on my team has raised heaps.

Oh Bellydancer, I was excited to hear that you were coming with your fancy cup cakes to the walk, but now, dissapointed.

If you don't mind me asking, what's the op for???? If it's personal, just tell me to mind my own business! But, I'm just concerned.

I hope it's not serious.

Hey there Bella,
Nothing to panic about- After an ultrsound and test in which they flush the fallopian tubes they found out that I have an ovarian cyst rougly the size of a tennis ball, and they were suspecting cancer. Turns out to my bloodwork is clear for any cancer markers. After the test I had a some pretty intense pain and still do over two weeks later. The doc wants to take it out these hols but now it turns out that the pain isn't the cyst- there's a serious infection in the fallopian tube next to it-must have been already present but go stirred up by the test. So with the help of some reaaaaallllly strong antibiotics I might be there after all. The cyst will be removed in January instead. At least I now know why my BGLs have been flakey for the past couple of weeks. Haven't seen my fertility specialist yet- she's on sabatical but when she gets back she might still want to get it out quick smart- it would be an issue with a pregnancey.

Gray,
Sorry to hear that you're crook again- hope you get better soon so we can have another coffee together. How are the legs going? With school hols coming up it might be possible for us to drag our sorry selves over your way or meet you in Parra if you're up to it.

Open invitation? Kiwis allowed? Not sure that I am going to be able to keep up the standards of D1's being gifted in the looks or brains area but I promise I will make an effort.
Count me in for the weekend of the 4th or 5th....I would love to meet up. We live in Baulkham Hills at the moment...so Parramatta is a doddle.
I will keep an eye on this thread.
